I live smack in the middle of a county that I swear has more illegals than legals. I'm more sympathetic towards the plight 85% of them face in their effort to better their life and that of they family they leave behind.
I've seen the Border Patrol stop and check the yard guys for their green cards and generally profile the Hispanics here, and I've got mixed feelings about the whole thing.
We absolutely need a secure border, not merely to stop illegal immigration but for the overall safety of the country. We do not need to witch hunt the Hispanics that are standing on the corners waiting for someone to offer them a job.
Nancy has missed the boat (again).
Quote »The SAVE Act aims to reduce illegal immigration through such methods as employer sanctions and strengthened border security.
Mrs. Pelosi wants to bury the bill, but many members of the House Democratic Caucus are under pressure from their constituents to take a tough stand against illegal immigration...[/quote]Employer sanctions are already pretty strong, but the border isn't. There isn't even a line to cross. Entering this country is no harder than walking north. Politicians are so willing to toss out legislation that begins to address an issue because it doesn't fully address the issue. We need a stronger border, and we need it now. Not just to slow illegal immigration, but to protect the country.
Are we going to wait until some terrorlst group downloads a few maps and hikes into the country? We go to great expense to keep those groups from entering through the normal channels, while leaving the back door open and unguarded. Nancy, you really should realize this.
