I have been thinking lately about moving up to a 17x9 with 235 or even a 245/40 (to match rears) up front. I was wondering if anyone running something this wide has had any long term issues? Unusual wear on tie rods and ends, power steering, or suspension to be more specific. Replaced lowering springs with coilovers this weekend and thought to myself how flimsy the tie rods looked. I replaced the ends a few years ago when I did the 5 lug conversion, but, I dont know, I'm thinking of getting after market pieces here also. Any input would be appreciated. Btw, currently running 225/45 on 17x8 up front if that matters.

the only problem ive ever heard anyone mention would be premature wearing of wheel bearings, but even thats a long shot...and thats with a lot wider than that

17x9 is no problem

Cool beans. I replaced the bearing hubs back in August with new oe units, so outside of clearance issues the working parts should be okay then. I appreciate the response.

Yeah, youll be fine. You will definately need to remove the plastic fender liners, but other than rolling the fenders the wheels wont need any other work.

But, if youre going really low, youll need to relocate your harness and possibly bash up the fender seams so you dont eat up your tires. But again, thats only if youre going extremely low.

I know with my S2000, if I were to run equal width tires front and rear, I'd have a whole hell of a lot of over steer. Is this not the case with the 240SX?

nope...s2k's have a factory stagger, theyre tuned to be neutral with this stagger, so you match it when you get new wheels, or you tune the suspension to match the new setup

240s come stock with no stagger, and are hence tuned for no stagger, so when you dont buy wheels with stagger no tuning needs to be done, however buying wheels with stagger will create understeer which needs to be tuned out

On that note, I am not planning on running too low. Just installed coilovers this weekend, and was able to achieve my perfect drop, roughly 2.25" up front and a hair over 2" rear. My tire diameter is just under 25" so overall I have decent clearance tho I am planning on replacing my exhaust for something higher (any suggestions?) Only one thing troubles me, and that is the tie rod angle up about 10 degrees from level. Cause for concern?

the LCA's are what you should really worry about, as long as theyre not angled like that you should still be ok

post just an outside pic of the car and itll be pretty easy to tell

I am actually considering buying a camera this weekend. Still livin' stone age here. I most definitely appreciate all the assistance and responses tho, thanks a lot guys. Dont know that anybody says it enough, but we do good things here.
