Well today i decided was a good day to try my luck with a 626 i lined up, reved up, light turned, and i all but dumped the clutch... now with my foot completely off the clutch my car isn't accelerating hard, the engines reving and my clutch is slipping like a beast...

So i do the old hammer the throttle in 4th and the clutch stuck, I'm not sure the amout of KM on the clutch but it has never really showed signs of slippage, except....

Since i got the car every once and a while the clutch seems to slip and grab, and this tends to happen after shifts especially...

Is it possible for this to be a sticky ThrowOut bearing and if not, give me some other ideas... i haven't checked my fsm as of yet buy am planning to do it soon...

Thanks :)

I don't think it could be the throwout bearing thats causing the slippage. The throwout bearing's job is to disengage the clutch disc in order to get into gear. Your clutch is slipping after you shift gear so your throwout bearing has nothing to do with the slippage. Generally, slippage could be caused by worn out padding on your clutch disc. Either that or somehow you managed to glaze your disc. The problem with a clutch is that it's tough to find out exactly what's going on until you drop that transmission. My advice, if you think it's time for a new clutch, you're proabably overdue for one.

hey holistic, i have an act 6 puck and when i dont give it gas and engage the clutch very slowly, i hear kind of a chatter sound-like rubber on metal. Me and my friend figured it was the clutch and he says it's probably glazed. What does a glazed clutch mean? and what can make it glazed? thanks

I appreciate the info... I'll be the first to admit i'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to clutches something i'm going to have work on.... It's interesting that you should mention glazing the clutch over because that could very well be the problem..

IIRC glazing the clutch is where you cause it to heat up and forms a slipper glass like surface on your clutch instead of the typical textured surface.... as you can imagine sand paper is easier to grip on then glass or stainless steel type textures... i think your clutch may be a little warped...

freak: Yeah glazed is when you give the clutch more than it can handle and it slips and burns and kind of glazes over the surface of the clutch. It causes it to be slippery and no be able to stick as well. I've had it happen to me a couple times on various cars (mostly after launching, and a smell of clutch when it happens usually) and it tends to go away after a few days of normal driving. Let it cool down and stuff and take it easy for a few days, if it is a glazed clutch, it should go away with easy driving.

Also, has it ever worked right? You said since you got it, could it have been a bad install from before you got it? If so it could be anything. Depending on how new the clutch it could just be worn out or glazed over.

i2ice4m3: If you have a pucked clutch, generally chatter is expected, especially when starting slowly. Pucked clutches are race only and you have to deal with stuff like this when used on the street. It's the infamous clutch 'chatter' you hear so much about. It would usually be even worse with a lightweight flywheel.

I had a clutch that was slipping and i ended up shattering it. it turns out that I just need to lubricate the through out bearing. Also my clutch master was bad so i rebuilt it, $10.99. I knew it was bad because I would have to adjust it everyother day till it didn't work anymore. Everything is fine now. Nick
