Ive got some buildup underneath the headlight covers and on the wheels of my q. A buddy of mine suggested that creamy Jiff peanut butter takes this off really well. Im debating trying this because it sounds ridiculous. Can i get some opinions/reviews?

I wouldn't try it...my Q is allergic to nuts. That's the main reason other men aren't allowed in my car.

Don't use chunky style.

Pouncer-I assume you are going to place the nut butter on the outside of the lenses....per your own comment, the buildup is INSIDE... are you removing the assemblies and "buttering" the inside?

Growing up, the neighbors dad heard about using bonami to seat valves, so he poured some in the carb when the engine was running.

I had to google just to find out what that stuff was? Looks like Comet or Ajax? Wow... bet that was a cloud of automotive death and screeching grinding noises!

Lol. I had to do the same last night. I thought I was the only one.

What sort of buildup requires peanut butter for removal?

I was not aware of the cleaning properties of peanut butter.

Before and After pics?

What was the composition of this buildup? Rust? Mold?

Hello,

From my experience with a peanut butter recommendation, I assumed you were talking about wax (or wax product) buildup. I doubt that the peanut butter would help with heavy buildup as that probably just needs scraping, BUT if you or someone to whom you paid good money to wax your car accidentally gets wax on something it should not go on (anything plastic and dark in color, interior or exterior), peanut butter may work.

I went to a new detail shop one day. I can only assume that the person mixed up the wipe-down towels and used an exterior towel on the interior (not my Q, btw). The result was white residue everywhere on the black plastic interior components - exterior plastic too, but the interior really bothered me.

I tried all kinds of things (solvents) to get it off, but it seems that wax is designed to resist such things. Reluctantly, I broke out the creamy Jif, and it worked on both interior and exterior plastic. After nearly a year, the result is the same, so I think that peanut butter really can remove wax from plastic.

If you ever get wax on something it should not be on, give peanut butter a chance. The oils seem to have the "right stuff."

You will also get hungry and look like a fool.
