Hello Guys,

Here comes another noob question.. please don't just scream at me and redirect my thread to the SEARCH button.. believe me...i have done it already and can't seem to find the answer in the previous threads....

I recently contacted a local carshop aruond my neighborhood and the mechanic there recommends a PCV Valve service (replacement) since there is about 60,000miles on my 04 G35 Coupe 5AT by now

however, i have read through the service manual, infinitihelp.com, even did a full search on various G35 car forums and no where it mentions that G35 needs to have this service done..

so here my quetion is, what is PCV valve replacement? is it necessary to do it for a g35 or it is somethign like timing belt change (which is not needed for G35 since we got a cool timing chain that will never break)

if the answer to above question is yes, then at what interval should it be performed and how much does it cost (in CAD currency?)

any ideas/answers are welcome here and I once again, appreciate your help and expert opinions.

Wiki has an excellent article on ther PCV valve. You might enjoy it.

When I was in HS I worked one summer at the Dodge dealer. During the oil change (what I did) we did a PCV service. That was nothing more than throwing the valve in some solvent and wiggling it around a bit. So, the valve can be cleaned a few times, then replaced. The article explains more.

Maybe one of the Infiniti techs will come along and answer your question. It is a valid one. Anyone?

I just reviewed my warranty booklet and even at the 105,000 mile service that calls for replacing spark plugs, it does not mention replacing a PCV valve. After reading the wiki article it clearly states that if one frequently changes oil then replacing a PCV valve is unnecessary. Unless you are having some sort of emission or other problem you should probably leave it alone.I never try to fix anything that isn't broke.Changing oil, oil filters and changing air filters are what will keep a vehicle running for hundreds of thousands of miles.
