Im building a KA and planning to add turbo. After deleting almost everything I could off the intake manifold, including the PCV tubing running from each of the intake runners, I had someone tell me how important it is. And that if I did not leave it on I would burn oil like crazy. Any input. . .

I caint tell if your going to do damage or not by not having a pcv system or having it blocked off but since it is fairly easy to run a hose from the pcv valve to somewhere in the intake before the turbo i preferred to err on the side of caution. Plus if you hook that line up to a catch can you can observe the motor's condition by how much blow by oil you collect.

ok.caution.well it is basiacally just a breathing system for the bottom end right? i think the catch can would be a good idea.but my main concern would just be idle problems or over heating. Im pretty sure it will eat more gas. Has anyone completely taken the system out and still running clean.

You want crankcase ventilation in any engine, the more so in a turbo where you're dealing with more blowby. Google "PCV".

Isn't PCV there so that pressure won't build up inside the engine. I think valve cover gasket would be the first to blow from it.

I understand what it does. Is it any different for a turbo application?. You answered my question though.

My main goal was to delete the stupid tube that feeds all that hot ventilation back into the intake runners right before the head. Want to keep the hot air out and keep down any air disturbance.opinions. . .

I sent my valve cover vent to outside with an air filter.

As for the PCV, there's much more than hot air. You have to deal with moisture and other stuff. I recommend leaving it as is and replace the hoses, they're old and brittle, will crack under pressure.

As for eliminating stuff, I recommend a custome intake manifold. The stock one is heavy, dirty from EGR and tiny.

been thinking about it.but still with aftermarket intake the pcv still needs to be run somewhere. Does it have to be run back into the intake (vaccum) or can it be led somewhere else ie: catch can.

Ultimately the pcv still needs to get routed back to the intake so there is vacumme to pull crap out of the engine. Even if the pcv is run to a catch can, the catch can is still supposed to be connected to the intake. The can just separates the oil and sheet from the air before it gets pulled back into the intake.

kool.think the catch can would be a good idea, just for observing more of what the motor is doing.Im not familiar with catch cans though, would it be an easy task to plumb something like that. line in from pcv - line out to intake.sounds simple. thank u

The catch can just needs to be air-tight. You can place it pretty much anywhere and use a couple of long hoses to route it.I had this big black plastic air-tight box with only one 2" opening on top. I pulled with from my old car that got wrecked. I think it came out from behind the radiator at the passenger side or something. What was it used for? Same thing as catch can?
