Quick one.

is it possible to replace the PCV when doing the oil change, meaning without the oil filter in the way?

i am troubleshooting bad idle and i'm left with the PCV.

thanks.

I would say no. While I was changing out my radiator I decided to remove my alternator and replace my PCV. It was still a pain in the A** from underneath... and the hose broke. That is a very tough thing to replace while trying to work around / through the manifold. Removing the lower manifold brackets makes it easier, but it not much. Good luck id you decide to go after it!

at the very least, alternator has to come out, and even that's a pain in the a**. I replaced mine 'cuz i pulled the engine. I cleaned the stocker real good and it seemed to be back to spec but seeing how much work was involved I went w/a NAPA US replacement. Genuine nissan was about 5 bux more.

It's so hard to see where the PCV valve is and to get it out. There's is so little room to turn when you get a wrench in there.

It's best to change it when you are changing out the radiator, because this frees up a lot of room. I remember one of the guides on this site for changing to koyo radiator recommended changing the pcv valve at the same time. Once you see where it is, you'll be glad you changed it.

Right now I have the entire intake and everything else off the passenger side of my engine. I could send you some pictures of what it looks like and you can figure it out from there. I don't know what would be easier, taking the whole box off or just the actual valve.

My opinion would be yes, one way or another it is possible. BTW, I have an S14, may be a little different.
