Is it possible to see the PCV inlet without removing the upper and lower plenum? (ie the hose coming from the PCV valve and back into the intake). I've been wanting to install a catch can on my Pathfinder after putting one on my Xterra.

I'm in the process of putting my rebuilt engine back into my vehicle, so I'm not sure of the answer. But it sure seems like trying to get to the hose coming out of the PCV value would be pretty hard to do without removing the upper and lower plenum. Hopefully someone on here can give you a more definitive answer. I would really like to see pics of your catch can setup!

I know to get to the actual PCV valve in the VQ35, the upper and lower plenums need to come off. I borrowed an inspection cam and traced the inlet hose to kinda underneath the throttle body so I'll be taking that off once it's a bit warmer out to try install hoses for the catch can.
I'll be replacing the PCV valve once the snow melts since that's a bit more involved than putting in a catch can.

As for the catch can, it's just a water separator from home depot/lowes that you'd use on an air compressor with some 3/8 fittings. I'll try to get some pics of the one I have on my Xterra.

Hey, glad that you were able to get it figured out...I found this diagram on a online parts store that shows the PCV hoses:

So then would you just put the catch can between the hose labeled as 11826 + B and the metal piping labeled 11835? I assume you would need to buy additional hoses that are longer in length so that you could mount the catch can somewhere in the engine bay? And would the hose coming from under the throttle body (labeled as 11826 + B) get attached to the outlet of the catch can, and then the inlet of the catch can would be attached to the metal piping (labeled as 11835)?

Yup, that's exactly how I plan on running the catch can. I figure attaching a hose to 11826 B and the metal line makes it the easiest way if go back to a stock setup if I ever had to for whatever reason. The catch can will be in the corner of the engine bay beside the brake booster just for ease of access

I found it easiest to remove the intake and manifold to replace the pcv, although I was installing a catch can, performing powervalve screws procedure and changing the valve cover gaskets. It only took about 3 hours total and that was taking my time. I don't see how it's possible to change the pcv without removing the upper and lower plenum. Just my two cents.

I highly recommend an oil catch can. These engines dump a lot of oil back into the intake.

Not changing out my PCV valve yet so I'm not pulling the upper and lower plenums yet. Gotta wait for warmer weather to do that. For now, I'll just be putting in the catch can

Thanks D13_R50 for confirming how the setup should be on the catch can for the inlet/outlet...wasn't sure if I had listed that right or if it should be the other way around! And thanks for the pics brando73! Since my engine is being put back together, right now I access to everything and I've replaced the PCV valve...and then saw where someone had mentioned a catch can being a good idea to have on these engines, so I figured now would be a good time to do it.
