I just started getting this code on my wife's 1999 Maxima and can't seem to figure out the problem. I know this is the Infiniti forum, but you guys seem to know your stuff better than what I have read in the nissan forum. Of course, this is the first real problem with the car which is only 700 miles out of warranty. Go figure.

The Hanes manual does not really describe what would cause this code 21 problem. The "engine light" has come on several times at start up, where the engine will idle roughly, almost like its missing. The "engine light" has also come on while driving, giving the same code 21 and rough idle. I checked the battery connections, as well as tested all the coils, which check out fine. I know the problem is intermittent at the moment, but it is happening every other time the car is used. Does anyone else have some insight as to what else could cause this? Maybe a faulty PCM?? Bad batter cell (not tested that yet)??

Thanks!!

Sure you read the 0201 code correctly? #1 injector?

Hi Dennis,

The code 0201 (2 fast flashes - pause - 1 slow flash) is from the "check engine light" flash code, not from the OBD-II scan tool trouble code. Since I have checked and cleared the code 4 or 5 times already, I'm pretty sure it is 0201 - Ignition Signal Primary Circuit Fault.

Do you think the problem could be a fuel injector giving the PCM an ignition signal fault? What else is involved with the ignition signal primary circuit?? Thanks!

Gotta use a Consult or scan tool to read the real code, think the flash code means 2 OBD2 codes are stored, you can't really erase them without a scan tool or driving the reset cycle .

Thanks!

The techs leave at 6PM EST on the dot, thought some of the auto parts stores read codes for free? We do secretly work on Maxima, Pathfinder, and 300zx since everything is the same- mas o menos.

Anyway it won't pass emission inspection with a code or cleared code not fixed.
