Pause XM Radio?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi, new to the forum. I just purchased a 2008 EX35 and subscribed to XM radio (I previously had Sirius in my old car). One feature that I am missing is the ability to pause the station if I leave the car for a short period and I don't want to miss something on a talk radio station. Is this feature available on the EX35's radio? I haven't been able to find it anywhere in the manual (pretty sparse).

Thanks!

Mike

I just got XM myself. $25 for 6 months, no commitment to further subscription. I was not aware that any sat radio could be paused like DVR. So no, the Infinitis don't do that, it's all live radio. What kind of car or head unit did you have before that did that? Was there a limit that it could record? It seems that the radio would need memory or a hard drive and that would sort of drain the car battery.

I have a 2010 with XM. I like it albeit I don't love the sound of it even with the upgrade BOSE system - it is fine, just not great.

Back to your question: I've heard that there are some devices that do that, kind of like Satellite TV can do (up here in Canada). I remember seeing a patent application for this feature, and perhaps now some aftermarket radio have this technology. But which radio/car model, moleswm, have you seen this feature?

Thanks for the replies. I have a Sirius radio that I had mounted on my previous two cars, it's the kind that you power via the accessory outlet. I was able to pause it for I think 30 minutes or so. It looks like this feature just isn't available on the factory installed radio, I also noticed that the text gets cut off. Oh well, I can live without it, the overall technology is still leaps and bounds over what I had before.

That is the differance I have never had a Xm or Sirius radio that was built in the car that would let you pause, only after maeket. I am on a trail with Xm and so far its ok not great even with Bose. My Sirius in My Fiat bose sound much better

If the text gets cut off and you want to see what's playing either press the left cursor and then enter on the "text" button
OR
Just hit the Info button on the dash and it will show you the full artist name and song title (along with cabin temperature).

Yes I already found both of these and both cut off the characters over I believe 16 in length, another thing I miss about the aftermarket radios. The other thing I have found is that the reception is significantly sub par, it's amazing how much better a much cheaper aftermarket radio works in general and is much more feature rich, I guess satellite radio was just not a priority in this factory installed radio/nav unit.

I just saw your post and as I just took delivery last week on a new 2012 G37 with Navigation this whole XM/Sirius issue has me highly pissed. I too had a factory Sirius Radio in my 06 G35 that I just traded in.
I was used to seeing scrolling stock quotes on my Sirius Radio while driving home from work in the afternoon. My new $43k G37 Sedan with XM cannot do this but my $79.00 Sirius Sportster can.

Here is my solution

Looks like crap but I can monitor CNBC on Sirius and listen to another channel on XM
