This might be a stupid question (on a pathfinder forum), but I'm comparing an '06 Volvo XC90 w/ 10k miles, vs a loaded '07 Pathfinder SE. Both are in the same ballpark cost \wise.

Any thoughts re: reliability, durability, safety, etc...?

thanks

No - the one I was looking at was the 5. but I'd consider the 6 as well. Dont really need the V8.

I've heard the Nissan VQ series engine is one of the top 10 of all engines in reliability. They were first used in the Nissan luxury class... Inifinity's.

Never been a fan of Volvo but I recently heard they're not doing that well in sales as they're not keeping up to the competition in regard to style and features... something like that anyways.

Haven't had a problem with my 06 Pathfinder and my sister's 05 Pathfinder hasn't had any either. Man do they go like stink! She has a K&N CAI added to the engine and there's a noticable added power to it.

Aftermarket parts/accessories are probably more available than Volvo XC90. Again... probably, as I'm not a Volvo fan.

Have you picked up a brochure from Volvo and Nissan? From there, you can compare the safety features they have, like side impact airbags, roll over sensors that'll deploy airbags... that sorta thing.

I'm not collecting data on the XC90 yet. But the other guys tend to report poor reliability for it.

How bad is bad, though? Wish I had an answer for you, as this is the point of my research.

I have driven every engine in the XC90. The V8 is far more fun than the others. The new 3.2 is weak, I remember the five feeling stronger. The T6 doesn't do much better than the five, because it has one less transmission ratio to work with.

Hi I'm new to the forum but I have both a Nissan Pathfinder an a 2006 XC90. My Path is an old one but a good one only that I'm having transmission problems with it now. On the XC90 I have to say that I love mine. Is big, comfortable and has never had a problem with it. I live in Germany so it's perfect for the autobahn cause it drives like a car and it works pretty good in the snow. Now honestly if I had the chance to buy a new Pathfinder I woild go for it just because I always had Pathfinders since 1988. My XC90 is great on gas millage and the interiors are well design. Good luck both are great vehicles
