pathfinder transmission ?

I've been doing some research on transmissions and think I'm going with the pathfinder vg30 4x2 transmission mated to my rb25 bell housing. Has anyone used one before or can verify that it has a lower 1st gear and similar shifter to the rb25 shifter? I was talking it over with my engine builder and he thinks that having a lower 1st will help me get the boost up off the line and then just shift immediately into 2nd.
