Now for a full year have had a suspension problem. Worsening ..

96 Pathfinder then- 90k now 104k of city driving..with NJ pot-holes

The car began[yr ago] to rock at 60-65+mph, when passing over a bump in the road, seam, or other irregualrity .. but instead of damping the rocking deepens, as though if one to take no action it would eventually cause the car to become uncontrollable.. Of course, we take actions. Brake or accelerate slightly..just do something.. It seems as though steady driving will keep the rocking steady or deepening. Now rocking can start at 50mph.

just changed rear shocks, change some front part in Dec '02[@dealership] >> Not any help, 2 mechanics no solutions!

Is this a common problem with known reloution?

replace the 2 rear trailing arms and the 2 upper stabillizer bars above the rear axle housing. the 8 bushings are probably seriously worn out. pretty common on those. when you accelerate it feels like the rear end is trying to swing out dont it? these 4 bars are attached to the rear axle houseing and go from just under the rear door to the axle housing right near the shock mounts. the other 2 are also attacheched to the axle housing but up higher. they are on the front side of the axle housing kinda at an angle one mounts very near the fuel filler steel tube. the other is on the other side situated the same way.

Thanks, your detail gives me confidence that we now have real actions that will help!

one follow up question below:

..on a 2nd forum I found a thread seeming to be on the same topic :http://www.realcaraudio.com/fo...=5297lnking to:http://www.off-road.com/nissan....htmllinking to:http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/shop/

That problem had solution of replacing /adding an Idler Arm' described by one vendor as "Idler Arm -Genuine Nissan idler arm. Replaces worn or bent stock idler arm when rebuilding isn't enough. Can be used with AC idler arm brace for added longevity."

Question: is this the same problem?Clearly the parts you describe are worn out on my Pathfinder, but should I add/replace this Idler Arm as well?

That other solution refers to treating 'inherently weak IFS' [?? Indep. Front Suspension??] Your solution focuses on the REAR.

yes cause the rear arms are the problem i see the most and suspect this is your problem. I have driven several pathfinders with this problem and it gives an awful feeling of not being in control of the vehicle.

yes there have been issues with front suspension mainly struts. they come loose up top and oblong the center hole of the upper spring plate. but there is usually knocking/rattling noise associated with it not so much vehicle instability. The idler problem is a knew one on me have yet to see a pathy with an idler problem. since your vehicle has a power steering rack there is no idler arm for steering. I assume they are talking about the idler pulley for the a/c drive belt.
