I've got a 97 Pathfinder 4x2 w/100Kmiles, just had a tune-up. When I'm stopped w/my foot on the brake there is a ringing noise that grows slightly the longer i'm stopped. It goes away the second I put my foot on the gas. NOTE: it's not the sound I've gotten when I needed new brakes.

It may be a loose heat shield or clamp on the exhaust that you can only hear when stopped.

I should restate the problem too..the noise is whenever my car is idling... and the sound seems to come from the front top of the engine area (the noise is really loud when you open the hood...)? Still the heat shield?
