Guys, so a scary thing happened while driving the other day. I was coming up to an intersection and tried to stop but I couldn't. When I hit the brakes the ABS started going off as if I were on ice but the truck wasn't slowing down and I ran right thru the stop sign. I would've been pretty much screwed if anyone was in front of me. A few moments later the ABS light popped on and the brakes worked like normal again.

Has anything like this ever happened to any of you? When I started it up again the ABS light was off but I don't know if it will happen again.

Was it slowing down at all, or was it requiring a lot of pedal pressure to stop? Was the pedal harder or softer than usual? Any codes or lights staying on when you start it up? Was it acting strangely or uncharacteristically before, or was this out of the blue?

I could see a defective ABS unit doing this, though it's terrifying that that's possible. A shop may be able to pull codes to find out what's going on.

Check the fluid level; if it's at all low, trace down where the leak is happening and how bad it is. Don't drive it again until you get some solid answers.

If you end up in this situation again, remember you have a lever that connects directly to the rear wheels, as a fail-safe ;)
