Pathfinder heat problem

I have a friend that has a 1997 Pathfinder. The heater only blows hot air after the car starts driving. When the car is at idle, the air blowing out is cold. What could cause this?

Could be a thermostat or there is air in the system. The air needs to be purged from the cooling system. Altima's are famous for this issue.

Partially blocked heater core will also cause this problem.Try a complete flush, including a reverse flush.If that doesn't work, you will probably have to change the core.

also you might not have enough coolant in your system.
