Hi,This is my first time on the forum. I'm really in a bind....I need to have my SUV repaired and tired of getting ripped off. HELP!!! I believe my fuel pump has gone out and I need to know about how much the average cost of repair would be?

im assuming its the 2000 pathfinder that needs to be fixed correct? What problems exactly are you encountering? Are you mechanically inclined at all or no? changing out the fuel pump is a few hours worth of work and the part itself is about $250 i think. They're expensive. Unless you buy used. But fuel pumps shouldnt go out often. My 96 pathfinder fuel pump was still pumping after 230k miles.

Thank you for responding. At first I would get out of my truck and smell gas. I was never able to see any leakage on the ground and this has been going on for a few months. I never experienced any other problems. I drove smoothly and the last time I drove it I stopped and completely filled the gas tank. The next morning I went out and the truck wouldn't start. It acted like it was going to start but had a quick shut off like the gas wasn't getting through. I asked someone to come over and take a look at it before having it towed because I've been ripped off several times. I don't believe the guy I had look at it really knows whats wrong with it and I just don't want to get ripped off. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like the same problem i had with my 96 pathy 3.3 engine. but this would happen when it was cold outside. I honestly dont know for sure because my in my pathy i never smelt gas. do you have the truck now? One way to tell if the fuel pump is still working or has gone bad is to see if you can hear a humm noise when you turn the key to On, its right before you turn the key to actually start the car. Do that and then stick your head in the back seatish area. If you dont hear any kind of noise then its your fuel pump. Do that and come back and report.
