I was wanting to add a performance muffler to my pathfinder but had a few questions so I dont get ripped.off...
My pipes and muffler are brand new about a year old because the old ones rusted away but if I wanna add.a flowmaster do I have to change the pipes again?
Also what flowmaster series should I look for
Will it hurt mpg?
anything will help thanks in advance

I think you can have them welded in place, at least that's how they did it when I had my mustangs. I had 40 series and they weren't bad except for the annoying drone at 2000 rpm's.

MPG won't hurt if you drive the car normal but people who generally buy them like the sound they make so they typically like to "get on it" a bit so in that case, MPG will suffer for sure.

only if youre making hte pipes bigger, so long as your inlet out let is the same as exsisting piping, youre solid.

Assuming youre running stock, i BELEIVE our pipe sizing is 2.5... COULD be wrong... haev a shop double check for you.

Going bigger is not always better, Going bigger could cause loss of low end torque. Slightly bigger by like a quarter inch shouldnt be a problem but find a shop talk to them, they are the specialists they know what they doing. Stick to the smaller 3 man shops. They tend to do a better job and not too worried about reaching into your pockets as opposed to the chain shops.

on a side note, bigger would sound better but at what cost. its up to you, a muffler can change everything

Ill be doing a full Cat back within the next few weeks once i replace my cat. Ill be expanding by half an inch as well as it reduces backflow. Ill let you know what the shop says when i go in for quotes and plan it out with them.

I dig the Magnaflow I put on. It is louder than the Flowmaster I have on my Explorer.

I did a cat back exhaust on my 01 a few months ago. The pipes are either 2" or 2.5" i forget. I was told that you can go too big on exhaust and then you have a reverse vacuum effect which would mean your exhaust coming out of the engine could get sucked back into the engine if your exhaust is too big. Also for my exhaust I went with a cherry bomb muffler that had dual inlet and outlet to keep the stock size. It sounds great and combined with a K&N cold air intake I did notice a performance increase with no real difference on mpg. Here are some pics of before and after

Yah I was able to run duals. It took a little extra bending, but we managed it. I can post a picture of the back with the tips if you want.

I'd Say a 2.5 piping sounds about right, I mean wouldnt hurt to go 2.75 but 3 sounds too big imo....

I was at the shop last night taking alook at my half assed exhaust... gotta say it looks like a mess.... Im looking into catalytic convertors right now and due to the placement of ours, we would have to go direct fitment.... They couldnt find it for less then 600 a piece..... Ebay i went and found em for 129 +25 shipping.... most likely to change both seeing as one of mine was clogged already... after that, off to the custom muffler shop i go and talk to them about exhaust.

Guy sounded quite knowledgable and seemed real solid.
