'05 Pathfinder 4 liter V6. Have had several episodes of the electronics shutting down and engine goes to limp mode. I usually shut down and it resets when re-starting and I finish my trip. Have had to three garages and one professional Nissan 20-plus year technician. Nobody has corrected yet. Conversation usually comes back to alternator or something closely related. I have checked the alternator for output multiple times and it is consistent 13.4 at idle - no load, and 13.3 with heavy load. Battery is new and checks at 12.2 - engine off. One time...cold start, the meter pegged at 19.2 on alternator check at start-up - briefly. I shut it down and restarted a few minutes later and was back down in 13s. ..Anyone connect with this?

Welcome to NICO Club!

Something is screwy. A battery should be saving you if an alternator fails. Have you tried measuring any of that power in AMPs? Like when you try the starter and stuff? I'm not sure how useful that would be though. Interesting for starter issues I guess. You say your engine dies right? Like, electricity stops working at some point and the engine just dies, is that correct? Or, you mean what you say, limp mode. It still runs, idles, etc. but you have really crappy power and odd throttle response and can't seem to drive it further than the side of the road... is that it?

Where are you driving your car (city, desert, snow, Africa)? How long has this been going on?
Did you buy it used and it was like this or did you have a repair and a few weeks later this started and never went away?

Thanks.

It almost sounds like a grounding issue. You might check all the grounding locations you can find and maybe run an extra or two to the engine and body directly back to the battery. See if that does anything to help?

These trucks seem to very dependent upon the grounding locations.
