I have a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. I am a fire fighter so I use my cigarette outlets for emergency lights. However I went to use the back one ( i had used it off and on when I got the car and it worked but didnt use it for a few months and tried again and it doesnt work, but the front one still does. I checked the fuse that said it was for the cigarette outlet (didnt say it plural though...) and the fuse is fine. Does that one fuse work for both or is there a second one some where... i cant find a second one. I also check the outlet as best i could and it still appears to be connected to the cables atleast on the outlet end, I havn't traced the wire to where it plugs it to get power from.

any thoughts?!

Check fuse #51 (should be 15A fuse) in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Also check fuse #29 (should be a 10A fuse) in the interior fuse box behind the coin tray. The two power outlets don't share the same fuse; those two fuses (#51 and #29) power the rear power outlet only.

great! it worked. I had taken fuse 29 out cause it was labeled as the rear wiper and the motor had gone bad i think and kept killing my car battery so I took out the fuse. So I swapped the 10a fuse with the one that said rear wiper motor and put it in the 29 slot that was labeled rear wiper amp and the back outlet works! and my car still started this morning so the other fuse kills the rear wiper too! good news all around, thanks!

Hey while we are at it, is it probably the motor that went bad on the rear wiper causing it to drain my battery when they fuse is in?

I know that with the front wipers if they get stuck then they will stay powered to finish the full range motion even if you turn them off on the stalk. For example, it snowed the other day and I tried to use the wipers to remove the snow from the windshield but they couldn't really move very far and they got stuck. I immediately turned the wipers off and cleared the snow/ice from the cowl and windshield. As soon as I cleaned enough snow/ice from the wipers so they could move, the wipers finished a full range cycle. So in theory, if the rear wiper motor had gotten stuck when you tried to use them and you never fixed it (by greasing the motor shaft) then it could still be trying to finish the motion which would in turn drain the battery when the vehicle is off.

I don't know if the rear wipers are the same as the front, so this is just all a theory. I could be way off though.

that makes sense, but to add more to it, my wiper had issues before that point too, it wouldnt complete a full cycle it would start then get stuck at various points of the swipe, could this be because I have never greased it like you were mentioning?? If so how would I go about greasing it and what would I use as grease?

Well I completely removed my rear wiper motor to grease it (I removed it to complete another job). You can probably get away with just removing the wiper arm and the rubber grommet that goes through the back door sheet metal and apply some general purpose white lithium grease to the motor shaft. The easiest way would be to purchase an aerosol can of white lithium grease and spray it into the motor and all around the motor shaft (using the red straw). You may need to wiggle the wiper arm a little to un-seize the wiper motor; then you can try the wiper and it should work beautifully.

Awesome! Thank you so much for this solution. I knew there was a fuse somewhere for that rear cigarette lighter.
