Hey guys,

i just picked up my Pathfinder this week and i would liketo upgrade the stereo with all Alpine equipement.the stock deck is basicly 2 1/2 dins: 1 for the controls and 1 for the 6 disc changer

now what i wanna do is keep the changer and add an aftermarket deck(alpine cda-9811) on the upper part

does anyone know if i can still use the cd changer?

and what kind of PAC adapter will i need to do so?

and does anyone here with an aftermarket deck use an adapterto still be able to use the steering wheel mounted controls?

thanks

IMO I think you should get rid of the CD changer and get an iPod and I would go with Pioneer. Their iPod interface and controls are the best on the market. I doubt you'll be able to get an alpine deck to talk to the stock changer anyway. I think Pioneer is coming out with a new single din deck in the next 2 weeks for around $250 that is iPod capable and has bluetooth built in. Personally after having 2 alpine head units burn up on me I'll never buy another alpine as long as I live.

Good luck!

i dont know about 2001... but in my 99, i was always told that the stock nissan disc changer under the passenger seat was made by clarion When I finally pulled it out, it turns out its actually ALPINE! It has the logo on the back Hopefully it wont be hard to hook up I think alpine is a good brand, but my Nissan / Alpine disc changer did break....

Go with the AVIC-D3, that's what I did and I couldn't be happier.

Is the Alpine changer OEM?

Just because the deck and changer are both Alpine, doesn't necesarily mean they'll talk to eachother. If the changer is aftermarket, then you may even be able to use the bus connection.

Also, if you've got a factory Bose system, make sure you're running all new speaker wire (which is generally a good idea when installing new speaks anyhow).

Hey REZN,i've never bothered installing my system yet...i ran through some setbacks here and there

about the PAC adapter i was recommended by many to stay away from it because of the poor sound quality, however SlickRoger told me a proper method to wire using a regular aftermarket harness. As for the steering wheel adapter,im sure you can find it at most audio shops or Crutchfield,i can post the adapter brand/model tomorrow,im taking my amp in for an inspection
