Hi All,

Please let me know if I can install winter tires of Size 235/65R17 instead of manufacturer recommended 235/65R18. I already have the 17" tires of my Honda CRV so wanted to utilize them for Pathfinder. I have checked some sites like Costco Tires or GreyCircle but they all recommend 18" tires only.

When I googled this, some folks suggested 17" will also work but somebody had mentioned insurance companies do not give claim if you do not put manufacturer recommended tire. Please advise.

Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Gaurav

I wouldn't worry about what insurance companies say. Do what you want.

That said, the 17" rims will fit, but the load range of a 235 tire may not be adequate to support the weight of the Pathfinder. The minimum recommended tire size would be a 245/70 R17. Check the load range of those Honda tires just to make sure.

Thanks @JayArras for the advise. Will check that.

Yeah the Pathfinder weighs 1000 pound more than Honda CRV for sure. For Pathfinder the recommended tire size is 235/65R18. From that perspective R17 might also be able to hold the weight.

Check the clearance you have between the ID of your 18" wheels and brake caliper assembly. There might not be much, if any, clearance allowance for a smaller diameter wheel to be mounted. The 17" wheels might contact the calipers.

As long as the wheels will fit and are roughly the same offest you will be fine. That said instead of a 253/65-17 go with 235/70-17. It will keep your speedometer as close as possible for accuracy.
