A long time ago we had a thread called celebrtiy loud mouths or something like that. I referenced Pat Tillman of the Arizona Cardinals as a celeb who sacrificed for a cause he believed in. He turned down a $3.6 million dollar contract extension to join the Army Special Forces in spring 2002 (right after his honeymoon). Mr. Tillman was killed in action last week I believe in Afghanistan. I though it was worthy of note.

Don't take my posting this as a way of belittleing all the other soldiers lost in battle because they too are indeed worthy of report and reverence.

Here is the link.

It was a sad day when he died. The news stations here in Phoenix had live coverage all morning today. Everyone from the ASU staff, where he went to college, to the Cardinals have said what an amazing person he was. Our hearts go out to his family.

To all of the men and women in our military who are fighting for our freedom and the freedom of others, we salute you. You are all true heros.

I was listening to the radio when I heard about this...and when I heard about more news about the soldiers. All of them have a lot of courage to go out and fit this war.

Yes you have to seriously believe in what you are doing to turn down that much money! but seriously a life is worth much more than any amount of money in the world

It's good we have people that love the country so much to give up their lives for what they believe in.

It's a very sad thing for any soldier to perish in battle (or peace for that matter). The only thing we can hope is that the loss of his life gives the men and women fighting this war for America a "face" for the public.

I heard this morning on the way to work. Not much makes me cry, but I spent a few extra moments in the parking garage privately mourning the loss of a brave and selfless man.

The world is a lesser place today.

Before he adopted Arizona, he grew up here in San Jose, CA. The San Jose Mercury News had a front page story on him after the news broke ...

That was a noble act. He did what he felt was right for him, and that in itself is a noble thing for him to do.

He left his amazing life and wife (I'm sure) to fight for his country. There are tons of other soldiers who do it too. My cousin being one of them. He was just famous before he left. I not down playing his death or anything. But I hope the media doesn't take all the attention from those other fallen men and women just because he was an NFL star. He was very brave and I hope it people respect his death.
