If you need to pass smog with a hotshot header and you have ODB 2 this is my recommendation. Buy a very good aftermarket CAT. Have it mounted on your car buy a very good welder NOT HALF ASSED! Do NOT plumb your FRONT 02 sensor into the hole in one of the runners hotshot says to put it in. Why would you want get a reading from only one cylinder? That’s stupid I think! Put the front 02 sensor into the back of the header in the collector were Hotshot says to put the back 02. Have the welder weld in a bun hole in the pipe AFTER THE CAT. This is were your rear 02 will go. By doing it this way you’re going too make awesome power and get a better 02 reading because you’re reading on ALL cylinders not just # 3 and you will not get a engine light because you have a CAT and everything is RIGHT!

This is a great idea, and works like a charm.THis way, even if #3 burns lean, the motor doesn't oercompensate with extra fuel that could make you fail smog/emissions.Some of us in Houston have been doing this for a while now to pass the strict emissions regulations, and I know the Cali guys have been doing it forever.

That's EXACTLY how my car is done. I moved the front sensor mainly for asthetics, it was only afterward that I realized it was a better place for it. FYI, Random Technology makes a bolt on cat with the rear sensor bunge already welded on, available is 2.5" and 3". I tossed my rear sensor completely though, and it still passes, cleaner than it did when new. Helps that the PCV, EGR, and breather are no longer used.

The rear 02 sensor is a joke it only pulls 1 volt at full throttle. What the hell the that! It makes no changes to the ECU

Diagnostics only. Same with the crank angle sensor, intake air temp sensor, etc. Throw it all away. Or sell it on ebay.

What is a ODB 2? and do you have any recommendations for aftermarket CAT's. Im guessing the welder will just make it fit....

On Board Diagnostic (OBD). The 2 is for Version 2. The version 2 is universal, every car after 1996 has the same OBD II program, so if you go into any garage the mechanic can use the same diagnostic unit to test every car for problems. The problem with OBD II is that the emissions changed with OBD I to OBD II making it hardered to pass emissions. I know for illinois they are going to OBD II testing that will just plug into the ECU and check emissions from there. Of couse for pre 1996 car this wouldn't be a problem.
