Last night I had to get something out of my car, and when I closed the passenger door, the window did the annoying 'half way down' thing and since the car was in the garage I just left it like that.

Well, I drove my car out today to wash it and the window wont go back up. You can hear a faint 'clicking' noise coming from inside the door. I've tried both bottons (driver and passenger) and it just wont go back up.

Does this sound like it needs a new motor? Is there anyway of getting the window back up for the time being?

Nope, I'll give that a go, its worth a try. It doesn't seem to be 'stuck', just dead.

Ugh, new motors are $200.

EDIT - Tampa G35 you are a legend. Pulling it up didn't work, so I pushed it down, and it went all the way down on its own accord while holding the button. It now goes back up and down without a hitch and the motor sounds fine.

Any idea what might have caused this? In any case I don't need a new motor!

That means that it's time to start looking for a good price on a window motor. No telling on when the next time it fails...it could be a week/month/year.

sometimes the track needs to be cleaned! Debris could be in there and that is what caused the motor to lock up... And then it has a safty feature that doesn't allow itself to pince someone's hand in the window... Same applys to the dirt stoping the window!

That is why it would only go down first... then it worked fine once it cleared the track!

I like this ^^^ suggestion. Open up the door and lithium grease the track/weather stripping. Obviously, only for the area of the window that does not show.

I had my passenger window motor replaced under warrenty and the advisor told me that in the future if it ever got stuck in the down position to bang the door panel while rolling it up. It vibrates the motor thingings to catch. Its better to have it stuck up then stuck down.
