One year I logged 76 open/closes in just 1 year. I would guess at 1000+ cycles.

I used a sturdy shelf bracket which is a lightweight piece of angle iron, hammered it a bit to fit a couple of curves, and the hood closes flush without bending and has for the past 4 years. It's not the prettiest fix but the hood's closed most of the time anyways.
