passenger seat vibration and rattle

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Has anyone else experienced a rather unrelenting rattle coming from an unoccupied front passenger seat? Mine has becoming almost constant at almost any speed and road surface (except those nearest the dealership) Had a tech ride in the back and he could barely here the rattle (although it was present). Dealership looked for the problem, but couldn't find anything. Suggested turning up the stereo.

I also had them check a noisy blower fan and Infiniti replaced that.

Hoping Steve the Tech has some thought or suggestion. I can make the same noise by simply moving the seat while at a complete standstill. The sound appears to come from below the seat cushion. I can stop the sound by pressing against the upper seat...but that is not a comfortable driving position.

Did you check that plastic cover right below the glove compartment? There is that cover with 4 clips (i think) that came loose for no apparent reason. 3 days before I noticed that thing came loose, I heard a constant rattle that seems to be coming behind the front passenger dash/windshield area. That plastic cover is located way down below above the foot if someone is seating on the passenger side. Maybe it`s good to investigate that area...

Let the tech drive and you sit in the back seat.

I checked the plastic cover below the glove compartment, it was tightly affixed. Thanks also for the suggestion about letting the tech drive. I can easily reproduce the sound by merely shaking the seat...but haven't been able to isolate it further. (temps here in Kansas have been in the teens for a while now and there is more than a foot of snow on the ground...so further investigation will have to wait for warmer weather).

I had the same problem within a few days of taking delivery of my EX35 at the beginning of last week. There was a rattling sound coming from the front passenger seat. It would immediately stop when I pushed against the seat with my right hand but immediately start up again when I relaxed the pressure. This was very frustrating and it continued for a full day of driving until I realized the plastic clip on the passenger seat belt had been twisted and wedged between the top of the seat and the side of the car when my wife released the belt to get out of the car the day before. I undid the twist so the plastic clip lay flat and the noise disappeared. It happened again yesterday but I knew what to look for as soon as the rattling started.

I'm sure this situation is probably unique to me but it can't hurt to make the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions. With the temp. here finally reaching a warm 25 degrees yesterday, I spent a little time jiggling the seat and trying to reproduce the sound that has been driving me crazy. The idea, from several posters, that it could be coming from an unsecured piece of plastic led me to the plastic covers that shields the end of the seat track where the track is bolted to the floor. The cover on the right side of the passenger seat was slightly loose, so i removed it completely and drove home 60 miles without any seat rattle at all. I drove back to work today, still no rattle. I will adjust the seat position today to make certain this continues to solve the problem and will report back further. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions...although not the exact solution...it appears it got me thinking in the right direction.

Just in case anyone else is experiencing this annoying rattle. It has now been two weeks since I removed the plastic cover over the passenger seat rail and NO more rattles.

Send Infiniti a letter telling them how you can reduce manufacturing costs while improving quality.

Don't forget to put that unwanted part in the envelope.
