I have a '92 SE with (I guess) mechanical locks. The passenger side locks and unlocks with the driver side though. Over the past couple of months it's started to do this weird thing where the passenger lock flutters really fast for up to one second when unlocked from the driver side.

At first I thought it was a loose connection, since I installed a complete alarm and keyless entry system a few months ago. They all seem to be fine though, so I think it may be a mechanical thing. I took the door panel off and put WD-40 on all the joints I could get to, still no luck. It seems stiffer than the driver side, and sometimes it takes effort to lock or unlock manually. It only does the fluttering thing about 80% of the time, and sometimes it flutters for the full second and ends up still locked. It's not consistent.

My dad thinks it might be a broken motor, so my current plan (since it's not a serious problem) is to wait until it completely breaks and then get it replaced.

If anyone has seen this before, let me know. It draws weird looks from people when I unlock the car and it sounds like a little machine-gun. =/

door lock actuator is going out. it is also the reason your lock feels stiff. replace it. might be part of the latch assembly

Thank you! Would you go to Nissan or a junk yard? It's kind of hard to get to in there, have you ever replaced one before?

Also is it okay to just let it keep doing that until it dies?

I have the same problem, but mine's WORSE!!

Driver side door runs an electric motor, that also controls the passenger side door. But my lock motor is stuck open! If I Force it to lock position, the passenger side locks, but the second I let any of my body weight off of it, the driver door unlocks itself, of course the passenger side unlocks too, and its stiff as hell, taking my whjole body weight to close it!

Kind of funny, but need ta be replaced :)

yes I have replaced various different nissan door lock actuators thats why I cant remember for sure if yours is part of the latch or a stand alone actuator. in either case if you remove the door panel you can unplug the bad actuator and it wont give you the headache of playing with the door locks. but you will need to manually unlock and lock the problem door with either the key or by the lock lever. the power function of that door lock wil be gone. you can get one from either but you wont know if the wrecker one is any good till you install it. the factory one will have a 12 month 12,000 mile warrenty.

There's no listing for 240SX. =( And I can't find any door lock actuators on similar cars either.

Oh well, this won't really be a problem until it DOES break.

http://www.nissanwholesaleparts.com/pt_inq.asp

go to this page there and fill out the info and they will get back to you with info. be specific about options on your car too ..like if it has a bose stereo list that also what model level is it like "se" "xe" what ever would make it different from another 240sx. also weather it has keyless entry.
