While driving home last night with a couple other people in the car, I noticed that the airbag light for the passenger came up (Airbag off). A friend was sitting there, and is at least 120lbs (~55kg?). I was on the highway, maintaining a speed of at least 100km/hr (~62mph?). The road was fairly flat (ie, not hills going up and down or anything). I'm just trying to include as much information about my experience as I can. The airbag off light came on for about 5 seconds or so, and went back off, and it happened (at least the ones that I noticed) twice on the same trip.

So: Anybody have any idea or has an explanation? Or should I be giving my dealer a call about this.

Thanks in advance!

i have noticed that if the passenger moves their butt a little forward , and their lower back isnt right against the seat, that mine does the same thing. after i noticed it happening a few times when my girlfriend was sitting there, we switched seats and i found that i didnt have to move much for the light to come on.

same thing happens to me, i dont want my girlfriend or anybody else who sits in my passenger seat to get hurt.

If that light goes on and we get hit or hit something, they r dead.

i guess i gotta call the stealership.

So... is there some way we could convince Nissan to look into this and have a possible recall to fix this? I for one don't think this is acceptable considering nobody can possibly forsee an accident to move their butt to the right place...

LOL, it doesn't mean they are going to die. Airbags to very little, unless the seat belt lock fails. Way to be over dramatic

For real. I got into an accident about a year ago, and the airbag punched me in the face. I think it was a good punch. Id rather it go off then not. Why would they put it there. Over dramatic my foot.

Ive been in a head on collision in a car that didn't have an airbag deploy, and I was unscathed. Then a few years later I was in the passenger seat of a honda that come into a head on collision with a guard rail, guess how I had my nose broken Like I said, if the seat belts lock mechanism is working correctly, the airbag does a minimal job. Take it up with Nissan, see what they say

also got into head-on w/o airbags and you get a nasty bruise from the seatbelt, lol and a small cut on head from license plate in the windshield, but would be interesting if nissan did relocate the sensor

I'd like Nissan to go to a key operated, manual on/off switch like a lot of trucks have. I've got two little girls that love to sit in the front seat and it's a crap shoot whether or not the light is on. Of course it does make my wife feel really good when she's sitting in the front and the light comes on!

i feel you boise - id rather have a switch to turn the airbag on or off.

I want nissan to rig it up so that the air bag always deploys.

Screw that. I got in an accident in my moms murano not wearing my seatbelt and the airbag saved my life. I WILL get Nissan to fix this even if an attorney is necessary. And if not, I'll have a new A4 or A5 in the driveway.

DUH! Try wearing your seatbelt...

My car got rearended once while i was stopped and some idiot hit the back of my car going 35 (apparently he didn't see the string of cars in front of me not going anywhere either). Had it not been for my SEATBELT, I would have gone through the windshield because the airbag doesn't deploy from a rear end collision, only front end ones...

The DOT has to approve all the airbag mechanisims for safety ratings. There is no way that you are going to "sue" Nissan for more than it costs to repair the mechanism. So good luck getting your Audi on Nissan's tab...
