Passenger Air bag light, on/off?

Hey guys,

Im currently experiencing issues with the passenger air bag light. It SOMETIMES illuminates when i start the car, signalling that the passenger air bags are off. It happens regardless if i have a passenger or not. It is more of a random thing, at least i think it is. I havent been able to figure out whats tripping the sensor or what not. Should i bring the car in to the dealer? It only has 700km on it.. (virgin). If it is a defect, will Nissan provide me another vehicle for the time being? (as it is my daily driver).

This seems to be a common problem. There are quite a few of us on here experiencing the same thing.

I'm having the same problem too. We don't know if its just the light or if the airbag is actually turning off. Makes me a little uneasy. When I get my oil changed for the first time I'll have them take a look at it.

Mine also lights up when I first start the car, and then the light goes out (when there is no passenger in the seat). I would expect the light to stay on the entire time.

Per the manual, page 2-13, When the ignition switch is pushed on or start, the airbag light illuminates for about 7 seconds and then turns off. This means the system is operational.

There is an issue if: 1. the airbag warning light stays on after 7 seconds. 2. The airbag warning light flashes intermittently or 3. The warning light does not come on at all.

If I read the above posts right, then all your warning lights are working properly.

In addition on page 1-50STATUS LIGHTThe front passenger airbag status light operates as follows:1. Unoccupied pass seat. The light is off and the front pass airbag is off and will not inflate in crash.2. Pass seat occupied by small adult, child or child restraint as outlined in this section, the airbag light illuminates to indicated that the front pass airbag is off and will not inflate in crash.3. Occupied pass seat and pass meets conditions outlined in this section, the airbag light is off to indiciate that the front pass airbag is operational.

i have the same problem, even there's 200lb big guy sitting on my passenger seat

pdrumans, the issue here is that the light is coming on even when there is someone of allowable weight sitting in the seat.

Well if is stays on while the guy is sitting there, then it falls under the "There is an issue if: 1. the airbag warning light stays on after 7 seconds. 2. The airbag warning light flashes intermittently or 3. The warning light does not come on at all."

But not all the prior replies indicate that. The original thread message reads as if Chow is wondering why the light comes on when he starts the car regardless of there being someone in the seat or not. Does it stay on? does it go off? ctrlaltcoupe indicates his comes on and then off which is what it is supposed to do.The light will come on regardless, but then shut off. If it stays on, then it is an issue like above.

Yeah, my passenger air bags go on and off. Sorry for not being clear about it.

Im not going to wait for my first oil change, i will be bringing it in, ill keep you guys posted.

Well tahts one of the nagging problems ive also been having myself. When i took it in the first time, the mechanic said if it continues to do it, they will have to replace the seat.....soooo im getting a new passenger seat...Also, my driver's seat is being replaced as well since I have creaks like a rusty spring!!! Also I have to get new brake light siwtches installed to get rid of the squeaks from the brake pedal...if thats enough I also have to get this clip that has come out on it's own, that helps keep the headliner attached to the sunroof and then u think thats it? I also have to get this leak fixed from the exhaust to muffler Joint.....its leaking condensating water big time!!.....i want a new ****ing car!!!!
