My neighbor did this with his BMW 540i. He actually left it running in his shop behind the house, went in for some coffee and got distracted. Went inside about 11pm and didn't check on it till after work the next day, so the car ran with the throttle jammed open 3/4 of the way for 20hours or so. He put a new engine in to be safe.
