I'm a new owner of a 2012 Rogue, base model, which is an "S" from what I understand. I'm wondering what parts are abled to be swapped over from the SV/SL trim levels?

I was considering getting parts car that's an SV/SL, as found one for cheap. I know the first answer is just to get right trim rather then trying to swap everything over. But the car I got was from a relative, for a great price and it's in good condition.

I know some brands/models swapping in parts from higher trim levels can be swapped in relatively easily due to some of the wiring being the same.

So I would just like to know what parts are easy to swap over, which are hard and which are prohibitively difficult that it's not worth the effort.

Nissan doesn't do that. Harnesses are specific to the car's equipment, so wires for absent equipment will rarely be there. The big exception is fog lights, most models have taped-back fog connectors and can be upgraded just by adding the lamps and a new headlight switch. There are also "factory" accessories for every model, you can browse a list of what's available for your ride at the link below. Some of them may be "sold out" for a '12, but you can probably find aftermarket equivalents for most of them:

Some things are practical if you have the knowledge and tools to break down connectors and add wires. Heated mirrors and mirror blinkers are an example. However, things like upgrading from a base radio to a navi or adding around-view to a base touchscreen are almost always impractical.

Thanks VStar650CL.

Things involving some skill and tools are fine. I've done various things to other vehicles from alarm/remote start , full audio system to a full ecu swap and repining of the entire connector.

This is exactly the info I was looking for though. As now I can look into adding fog lights and heated mirrors, knowing that's possible.

How about heated/power seats?

Also considering a headlight swap for HIDs or LEDs if that's possible. Otherwise I might just retrofit.

Heated seats are simple, there's lots of aftermarket out there. Most of them are on-off kits, but you can easily make them high-low the same way the OEM's do it, by using a DPDT switch or relay to put the cushion and back elements in parallel for high or series for low.

Forget HID's, they're way more trouble and expense than they're worth. There are lots of plug-and-play H11 LED's out there. If you want to buy American and get a great product with a lifetime warranty, get Diode Dynamics SL2's. DD is the only US manufacturer of automotive LED's (largely due to idiot DOT restrictions, but that's a story for another thread).
