I just cleaned the MAFS and it seemed to smooth out overall running characteristics.

Also did the Throttle body without removing it. Just sprayed the hell out of it with carb cleaner. There was a ton of black build up on the back side of it, so I drenched the whole inside of the manifold too. Careful, hard to start after that as it is flooded with the very flammable carb cleaner.

Far as I can tell, there isn't much of a need to clean the alt. unless you've got oil leaks and such that would potentially catch fire or insulate the alt. where it would start getting to hot.

You can do any connector that is showing corrosion on the contacts. Not like it would hurt anything.

gas tank- never really heard of someone droping that just to clean it, maf- spray some brake or electrical cleaner into it, not directly into the hole though, its sensitiveharness conectors- pull them off and spray them, not much to it

is it possible to unbolt the mafs from the collar and clean the filaments (for lack of a better term) without damaging them. I disassembled an old one that already had a snapped wire and sprayed it with carburetor cleaner. cant see why not but then again what the hell do i know. new one's $95 from NAPA
