Wow, it's been a while, and I must say the new NICO looks great, but...

After hibernating for the cruel California winter months (ok, so I was just lazy...) I finally decided to swap out my slipping stock clutch for a new ACT clutch. I've done as much research as I can, and I just wanted to make sure I have a list of things I'll also have to do/replace:

**For '89 s13**

1) Resurface flywheel

2) Replace crankshaft pilot bushing

3) Replace transmission throw out bearing

4) Replace gear oil

Is that pretty much it? I have to do this install in as little time as possible, so I can't have my transmission out and then realize I'm missing a part that needs to be replaced. Where would be the best place to get the bushing and bearing? Thanks!

If your buying a ACT clutch kit it comes with a new pilot bushing and throw out bearing. Be sure to get GL-4 grade transmission oil. Pepboys and places like that carry only GL-5, do not buy it. I use Redline MT90, its GL-4 and 75w-90, works great.

Good luck with the surgury

The old throwout bearing will need to be pressed out of its retainer. Keep the retainer and press the new throwout bearing onto it.

You might have to go to a shop with a press to get this done. You'll be limited to the hours of operation for the shop if you can't press your own bearings.

You can usually just buy the entire throwout bearing. I didn't have to press anything in or out just buy the entire assy. The pilot bushing is the B*tch to get out. Make sure you have the right size puller for it. Other than that it's a pretty straight install. Just make sure you have the clutch alignment tool, some people say you don't need it but it makes the install that much easier. It should come with the clutch kit. Since you are down there it would be good to replace the slave cylinder and clutch line since together they should only run you about $40 or so. I got a steel braided line for like $30 shipped from SPL parts.
