They have a deal with certain dealers to honor their trade-in quote ONLY IF the condition of the car matches what you disclose on the on-line form. And since the disclosure is based on Poor --> Excellent rating system, most of it is grey area, so don't expect the dealers to come back with a number as high as the Autotrader quote.
YES, it IS a guarantee as long as the car is what is described. Obviously, if you say there is no damage on a car and it has visible hail damage, that changes things. I work with the TIM every day and it works as long as you're honest about what you have.
Quoted from the email I received from AutoTrader:

"Please note
The amount of this Instant Trade-In Offer is subject to adjustment following a participating
Buying or Trade-In Center’s inspection of your vehicle. If the inspection report differs from your online assessment of your vehicle’s condition, the final Instant Trade-In Offer amount will be adjusted based on the report."

I'm not going to split hairs with you, but we both know that dealers exist to make a profit and a guarantee is NOT the same thing as an offer subject to adjustment.

When I purchased my NX...the lady who was selling it used some kind of middleman to do all the paperwork and haggling. One thing I hate most about buying/selling cars is haggling...I just can't do it. Perhaps look into that? Couldn't have been that expensive to hire the guy...I bought the car for $1800.

my brother used to be a car salesman back in the day so maybe I can drag him along. hiring a middleman sounds like a good idea, but how do I find that? craigslist? I'm afraid I might find more than I bargain for. haha.

This is a favorable time to sell an economy car -- don't trade in a car in high demand. You could sell it yourself for plenty of money in a reasonable amount of time. Throw it on Craigslist/Autotrader, sell it for $$$$$$, then buy us all drinks at Carlisle.

Actually I met a dude on Call of Duty in Fairfax that buys and sells cars regularly, along with lots of other misc. objects. Ive actually never really met him but his prices sound reasonable when I talk to him about it. I also dont know how much his cut is. Sounds trustworthy and he claims he sells cars within 2 weeks for the most part.

TBH I would just try and craigslist it first and see what bites

Craigslist has worked well for me around here, too...

You will have to deal with the idiots and time-waters tho.
