part pricing in japan

I was wondering, to all of you in japan or okinawa, etc, are the parts really cheaper over there, or is it just easier to get them? I ask because I have a buddie who just got sent over there to fly c-130s, but is not a "car person." I wasn't sure if it'd be worth it to send him looking for parts, or to just get them where most of us get them.
