I bought a 1989 240sx. It has a good transmission, but the motor blew. I was told a piston probably broke. Here's my question, should I spend the money to buy a new motor, harness and clutch and work on the body? or should I try and part out the car?I bought it for $650 so I'm basically trying to make that much or a little less back, or work and spend the money fixing it up?

Another thing, the rust is bad. One of the strut towers is pretty much rusted off.

I was all set to say fix it until you wrote the strut tower was rusted off (almost).

Is that the worst rust or just on spot of many? Are you able to spend the time and mony it would take to fix it right? Can you do it your self or do you have to pay somebody else to do the work?

Pictures may help as what you call rusted out we may call minor. Or the other way around.

Only you can decide if you can put foth the time and effort and money it will take to fix it right. If you can't do the above then just part it out.

Just my opinion.

if you could fix it properly then go for it. if you cant you could either part it out, or keep it as a parts car when you buy another 240

Show us pics of the 240. There could be hope for your 240. How much are you willing to fork up? Or keep it as a parts car, and get yourself one in good condition and possibly running.
