OK, so I have a very large leak at the back of my transmission. It's a JDM 5-speed. What kind of car should I say I have to get the seal? Is it the same as a 1990 240SX?

BTW, is there any unwritten trick to replacing this seal? I have the manual, but I've never done it before.

Thanks,

Darian

At the back of the transmission? Are you referring to the output shaft seal? Post up a picture of what you're looking at to help us figure out how best to help.

Yes, you are correct. Where the driveshaft goes into the transmission. I think I damaged it when I put the driveshaft in because it's leaking like a sieve...

should be the same as the 240SX ones
I know the dust sleeve is different but it's not something to worry about

The dust sleeve just pops out, correct?

It's the same as the 240sx.

Dust sleeve is just pressed in there lightly, so tap it out with a flatblade and a hammer.

I have never seen one leak though, are you sure you don't have too much fluid in there?

I'm not sure because it's impossible for me to check with my setup. It leaks as fast as I fill it, though.

I'm not sure if my rear transmission seal is leaking, but I always do see a drop of gear oil waiting to fall off that little rectangular part that's sticking out of the bottom of the rear of the transmission.

I haven't really investigated it much because my transmission started feeling like it was hard to shift, so I went ahead and changed the gear oil, expecting it to be low since I saw the leak. however, it had a lot of oil still in it, and didnt seem to feel a whole lot better when I put fresh 75w90 in it (maybe a little better).

I don't think I put any kind of RTV or gasket under my B&M shifter. Dunno if that would cause much of a leak.

let me know how it goes if/when you change out your rear trans seal. good luck!

A drop or two I can live with, but this isn't holding oil at all. Like I said, I think I damaged it when I installed the driveshaft.
