On the cam cover on the timing plate there is a raised cylinder portion that goes into the cam sprocket.

This raised section has a split oring that looks exactly like this

butttttt this does not fit the pathfinders much smaller cam cover groove. Everywhere i look that has the oring even listed, has it listed wrong as needing 2 of the collared orings instead of the one collared oring that seals the corner of the cover. The split oring goes directly in the center of the circular part of the cover.

PLEASE i know someones dealt with this if they have done any timing work. I dont want to have to buy brand new covers at $90 for $10 in seals.

Terrible news. after chatting with the parts manager at john lee nissan in panama city fl, he confirmed that you have to order new covers to get the oring because he had the same problem a year or so ago and ended up having to chat with nissan corporate over the course of a week. you can order the one for the 350z but not the pathfinder. Freaking nissan i will never own again after my terrible experiance with my 07 350z, Gf's shotty piston rings that are a known problem with vq35's and now this BS.
