Wow, I've never heard of something that goes into the ECU!
Drilling holes in your bumper isn't that big a deal - I did it to my grandpa's Caddy when he wanted these sensors (I was scared as hell, but it came out great.)
The majority of these systems have independent receivers that make the beeping noise for you and only require the splicing of a backup light bulb to turn the power on when you are in reverse - it's really quite simple.
