I parked in some spot that had 2 hr parking only for non permit holders. When I came back about an hour later, I see this white vertical line on my fender. I thought it might have been bird crap, but it turned out to be white chalk. Well good thing I was just driving a relatives car that day. The thought of scratched paint did cross my mind.

When people park in my spot I mark them with a key.

did they also mark the tire? unless my logic is off today, i would imagine that they have to mark the tire, as well as a reference point to see if the car had indeed moved. they probably should have marked the curb instead, though.

I don't know what city you live in but I've never heard of parking enforcement ever marking any part of your car unless it's to mark it for for a boot or to tow it.

Get some chalk.
Have a buddy lay down next to a car in some contorted position and draw his outline.
Squirt a ketchup pack around the head area of the outline.
Retreat to cover and watch the fun.

Id have waited for the parking officer to return and asked. Then requested a supervisor and an official report... just to be an a**.

Be happy you don't live in Philly, the PPA here is notoriously vicious. Watch Parking Wars on A&E, you'll see what I'm talking about. ^ he know's what I'm talking about.

Dude the PPA is f*** horrible...I got a parking ticket once for a parking somewhere I'd never been! And after going through court to show that I was parked on my college's parking lot at the time, they still threw it out!

The PPA is sadly the most efficient department in all of the city of Philadelphia. They are the only department that brings money in, unless you live out of town you can never really get away from paying that ticket. Either you pay it, or they boot your car, don't pay that they'll impound your car, still don't want to pay that ticket they'll sell your car at action and report you to the credit bureau. One way or the other they'll get their money. Hell they even ticket cop cars, which is completely unacceptable.

I went to Windsor on my 19th birthday with a buddy to get drunk and celebrate. We parked in a lot, got tanked, and got two chicks to drive us back to the hotel we were staying at. In the morning, we walked back to the car and noticed the parking ticket, since we were about 13 hours overdue for the meter. At that time I had a lease car since my dad worked for Chrysler. My car was having work done so I had a company car. The registration said Chrysler, the plate was tied to Chrysler. Nothing had my name on it. We drove back to Michigan, I tore up the ticket, stuffed it in the provided envelope and mailed it from our US address so the PA had to spend more money on the letter. Never heard back from them.

So heres the lesson; if you want to park anywhere for free, drive to another country with a car you don't own and do whatever the f*** you want.

I had my rear bumper marked with chalk, one time in Iowa. I didn't care, it washed off.
