im pretty sure the cops can't do anything to you in a parking lot unless someone reports you, that owns the lot. but i could be wrong, cops havent got me yet :)

They can still get you for endangerment or something along those lines. If you want to practice in a lot, I would think it would have to be private or at least closed to public access and with the owner's specific (most likely written) consent.

He can write you a big ol' ticket. I don't think he can arrest you though.

Thats why you need to find a big parking lot behind a building.....

If its private, they shouldnt be able to do it. It would be like you doing it on your lawn, its not their property..... Then again its the law, so it doesnt really matter what they shouldnt be able to do, THEY CAN!

Check your state's vehicle code. California has one that basically says you can not drive recklessly in a parking lot that has public access(even if privately owned). Of course like any law, there are different interpratations dependent on the actual verbage, but I would not assume that it is okay to be reckless in a parking lot, just because it is privately owned.

i dont know much about the parking lot laws. only this one time when a few of us were drifting in a private parking lot, a cop came by and being such a jacka55, yelling and shiet, and just chased us off, but he didnt write tickets or treaten to arrest us or anything, so i am guessing that he really couldnt arrest us, but he was being mean so that we would be afraid of him or something

it can be called trespassing, or loitering.

just depends on the cop that comes out there really.

I bet there's a lot out there that be like "here, lemme show you how you do it" and fling the Vic around...

I believe C-Kwik & Mr1der are right. Depending on the state, you could be cited for a variety of offenses including tresspassing, loitering, vandalism (drifting leaves skid marks), some states give tickets for reckless displays (burnouts, etc). Some states may cite reckless driving as it's has public access.Unless you have the parking lot owner's authorization,(which is unlikely as they'll likely want insurance coverage in the likely event something happens) you are at risk doing it.

No, that's how the mechanics that fix that intermittent ABS problem test drive the cruiser. It's easy to get them confused for each other, because they both wear blue shirts.

You know, cops I've ridden with are a little crazier/balls-ier behind the wheel than you'd at first imagine them to be.

You think they don't enjoy nailing the throttle or flippin a bi*** on wet pavement? They do. To be a passenger (up front, that is) is a bit cramped, but better than any amusement park roller coaster!

You wanna see crazy, check out BSR, which is based at Summit-Point Raceway. these guys TRAIN the cops. I spent a day with them a few years back. Wow. Amazing drivers. Going around a race track gets much more challenging when someone is behind you trying to ram you. wild stuff.

One of the only reasons I would want to be a cop is to get a cop car. Oh the good times I could have with a crown vic.

I'm not sure how much they are, and they do teach civilians. I spent a few hours with them during an Audi Club instuctor clinic. It was part of the package as Audi rented both tracks at S-P. Most of the time I spents with them was on the skid pad in old ex-cop crown vic's. Very fun. I'm sure there's a link on Summit-Point Raceway's website for them. They also offer security driver training. (think limo drivers escaping terrorists while driving diplomats). My neighbor, who works for our government took that course. He loved it, but his classes were paid for by Uncle Sam.

There's was a firearms training course that an old co-worker of mine had taken. She and her husband only took the handgun stuff, but she brought me a brochure and they had a course that teaches how to shoot a handgun from a car. Kind of a car chase scenario or something. It's been a while and I can't remember. The whole program is intense. In the walk-through course, you are followed by a trainer with a tazer. He zaps you as you see potential enemies to teach you to kill your target even if you get hit. Last I heard, this program was moved to Las Vegas somewhere.

a tazer and live rounds with handgun is a big no no.

probably something else not as severe....

shooting from a car would be easy for me, I'm left handed:D (well, as easy as shooting from a car can be anyway...)

Well, I don't think it is a tazer with the type of voltage to disable, but only cause a shock enough to inflict enough pain to distract from the shot. The reasoning was for at least 2 things. If you are not shot in a way that would imcapacitate you immediately, you still make the kill and increase your chance of survival. In the same sense, even if the shot is fatal, but not immediately, your team may be in less danger as a result of you being able to make the kill anyway(perhaps if you are on SWAT or something).
