Hello everyone, i have a problem with my 1990 na Z.

I performed a parking brake test in my driveway, and it only stopped rolling back on the last click ( which is almost at 90 degrees) :nono: . I also counted how many clicks i could get by pulling, and i was able to get 12-13 clicks  .

Do i need to adjust the parking break cable? When looking at the manual it said there should be about 6-7 clicks, and to get it checked if its not in that range. I am also able to drive with the e-brake on with no noticeable difference.
Any ideas on what i should do?

Unless the brake shoes are completely worn out, you can adjust them at each of the rear wheels. If you look closely at the brake hubs, there is a rubber plug the can be removed to adjust the parking brake pad shoes. There is also a nut (10mm I believe) under the parking brake boot, look for a slit in the leather boot for access. This nut can be used to fine tune the parking brake handle once the pads are adjusted.

Agreed, the rear shoes (inside the rotor, not the brake pads) are probably out of adjustment, or they're really worn but that would be surprising.

Also, it's not surprising that you can drive with the parking brake on... there's no way those tiny little things could stop even an NA from going forward. It's a parking brake after all, so it should only prevent the car from rolling when it's off.

Sorry about the late response, but i've been busy with work. Both of you guys were right, all i had to do was do a quick adjustment by moving the star vertically on both sides evenly. My parking brake feels perfect now,and it is matching the 6-7 clicks in the manual. no need for any new parts. Thanks for the help, i think im gonna start using this forum more often :).

I'm having the same issue the OP is having, I am going to check it out this weekend if I get the chance. anyone happen to know off hand when you are supposed to replace the parking brake drums? My Z has 146k mile on it and I was just wondering if it should be done, if it hasn't already.

Nominal ID measurement is 172.0mm, limit is 173.0mm. In theory, (ie all brake system worked properly and maintenance is kept up) the drums "should" never wear out.

Hmm... this sounds easy (knock on wood!)... I'll have to do mine too as my ebrake doesn't stop the car from rolling either. But since mine is an auto, it isn't all that important. :rotflmao

mine's unfortunately an auto too, this was really easy to do though, took me 20 minutes. Just remember to have the hole bottom center to access the "star". remember to tighten them on each side evenly! i made the mistake of having a friend do one side and his side was too tight. good luck
