it could be stuck (possibly from cold weather) but the first thing i would check is brake fluid level. Brake fluid too low will cause the light to turn on and stay on.

Thanks for the response, i thought we were on to somthing there but i checked the brake fluid level and it was right where it should be. It just seems wierd that it would get stuck on that tiny bit, it doesent seem to be hurting the acceleration tho its no worse then usual which makes me think its not that big of deal but i donno lol

My buddy has the same problem with his '02 QX4 with 98K miles. If you find out anything, please post. I'll do the same.

I checked the brake fluid, which was fine. After it warmed up a bit (outside temps) the light turned off on its own.

I am just guessing but could it be associated with a blown fuse maybe?

i donno guys, iv been parking in the garage for a while now and that doesent seem to effect the light at all. i dont know about a fuse though youd think that would make it so the light didnt come on.

I would try and set the e-brake and release it numerous times. Maybe it's just stuck ever so slightly. I would try and trace the line back to the rear wheels to make sure it's not hung up on anything. (I'm not sure of the set up, I've never looked at it before) Otherwise, I would pull the rear wheels and take a look at what's going on there. Could also be a short somewhere but probably not. Did you use the e-brake often or did the light turn on even though you never set it?

That's odd. Usually when people don't use it for an extended period of time and then they decide to use it, the rust and corrosion keep it from returning back to exactly where it is supposed to be. When you use it regularly, it stays free.

I've got to pull the rear wheels on my truck for the first time. I'm starting to get a squeal from them (original brake pads at 50K miles). I always forget which way to turn that adjuster to pull the pads in a bit to get the drum off.

The emergency brake light is usually just a simple switch under the lever thatturns on when you lift the level. It's not controlled by whether the brakes areactually on. Have a look in the console around the level -- It's possible theswitch has simply come loose, which would turn it on.

Hello All,

New to the group and wanted to mention that I have the same problem as benny8. It started about 3 months ago and initially seemed to only stay on when the temperature was low but now it stays on whether its cold or warm. The res is a bit low so I'm going to pick up some brake fluid tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

I'll post results

I guess I should first ask... benny8, did you figure out what it was??

Thanks

Brake fluid took care of it. It was a bit low so I topped it off and the light's off

Thanks for the tip Fueler!!! Saved me the money it would have cost me to take it in...much appreciated.

Take it easy all

On a 1999 Infiniti qx4 brake light switch failure, and lights remain g on is often the failure of the rubber grommet attached to the brake pedal buffering the brake light switch. A .18 cent (3 pieces of chewing gum) and a bottle cap, centered punched for zip tie. MacGyver that.😁

1999 Infiniti qx4  brake light switches rubber grommet attached to breathe pedal disintegrates, I found the pieces in the steering column bracket. . Position bottle cap between brake lever and and brake light switch pin , and chewing gum keeps it in place when allowed to dry. $100 average repair cost my arse. MacGyver that.😁
