Park neutral safety switch?

I've been battling with a recent issue with my transmission switch knob now.

It dose not switch from park to drive or reverse, sometimes when I drive the vehicle. This happens mostly when engine is hot or I have driven longer miles.

In other times, it stalls before this problem happens, and can't get into D/R.

Solving this temporarily, I had to use a small rod, and inserted it into the small hole provided to enable me shift the shifter from park to D/R.

Would a park neutral switch from perhaps a Pathfinder, or Maxima, work perfectly if swapped?

I've never had the shifter out of an M, but on a lot of N/I products the shift solenoid uses an exposed microswitch that can be replaced separately with a little soldering and rework. See if it's anything like this:
