Hi! I recently read Consumer Reports and they had a lot of good things to say about the 2014 Rogue. However, it mentioned avoiding getting the moon roof if you want a quiet cabin as it produces a wind hiss noise even with the sun shade closed which causes a person to have to talk louder and turn the radio up. Have other people with the new Rogue that has a moon roof on it noticed this? I've had 2 different cars with a moon roof and neither produced any noise. I was able to test an SV and SL but neither had the moon roof package. I liked the ride of both of them and both were pretty quiet rides. My dealer is willing to do a dealer trade on a vehicle if I want the moon roof but I don't want to get it if I'm going to have to deal with wind noise coming from above my head.

Hey there. I only had one car with a moonroof and what I noticed was upon hitting speeds 65mph with my shade opened ever so slightly you would hear the noise, it was not loud but it was there.. ,, in my case all I had to do was keep my with shade closed and the Silence returned. .. it has been Years since I had a moonroof so I don't even know of they come with shades anymore..

The CR article is referring to the Panoramic Moonroof, which is more than twice the size of the moonroof in the first gen Rogue. AFAIK, the CR review is the only time anyone has complained about excessive cabin noise from the new Panoramic Moonroof.

Before my Rogue, I had a 2012 Honda Civic with moon roof. The Civic drove me crazy with the horrendous wind noise. I am unsure if it was from the moon roof, or just the typical noise that Honda seems to be known for. When I bought my Rogue SL I did decide to avoid the moon roof just in case. The Rogue is much more quiet than the Civic, but there is still wind noise when I go 75+ but I think that is the nature of the beast.

I read the same consumer report you did and it was the only time I heard anything about wind noise from the moon roof.(keep in mind the same consumer report complained about the seats- which I think are some of the most comfortable seats I have sat in! ) A guy my husband works with bought a rogue, but had the moon roof installed afterwards ( big mistake IMHO) he told my husband there was a ton of wind noise coming from it- no surprise aftermarket.

After buying the Rogue I did read that the Buick Encore has "Bose Noise canceling technology" with a very quiet cabin. It made me wish I had at least test drove the Encore. I didn't bother test driving it because the review said it was basically worthless on the high way with the 1.4 L engine. I did test drive the BMW 1x it was similar to the Rogue ( not worth the extra money) I also test drove the Mercedes GLK,(My husband prefers MB) which I didn't' find a big enough difference to justify the extra money between the Rogue and GLK.

I have not had any issues with wind noise from the panoramic roof. There is no difference with the shade open or closed in my experience so far.

I'm surprised the Subaru received so much love from CR. I didn't drive the Forrester, (didn't like outside or interior styling) but I did almost all the other models in the class.

The Encore wasn't noticeably more quiet than the Rogue. I wasn't impressed with the ride or the interior, it seemed much more narrow and is absolutely tiny behind the front seats. I also had a horrific experience with a salesman just trying to test drive the damn car.

My wife and I both realized after travelling a couple of miles down the road on our test drive that the Rogue was the better car.

Today I had the chance to drive an SL with the moon roof. If there was any noise coming from it, it was so minimal that it wouldn't be a concern for me. The thing I did notice however is that the headroom is definitely impacted when you have a moon roof. I'm 6' 4" and my head was next thing to brushing the ceiling with the cover closed. That surprised me some as I currently have a CR-V and I have several inches of headroom with the moon roof. Maybe this car with a moon roof isn't meant for someone so tall :) But I definitely like the ride better than my CR-V.

I just installed factory crossbars as I need them to put the snowboards up top. I noticed the other day while driving on the highway, when I tilted the sunroof the noise was extremely loud. I know it has to do with the location that they have the crossbars, being right out the tilt area. Do you think that the sunroof wind deflector will help with the noise or will it not do anything since the bars are more to the center of the roof than the front? If anyone has installed the deflector let me know if it helped or did not do anything. I also did try to just open the roof completely, it was not as bad as the tilt but it still was a lot louder then without the cars installed. I wish nissan made it so you could slide the crossbars back and fourth, this may the wind would not be pushed at the sunroofs opening.

I have that protector on. It doesn't help much. People used to complain that they can't hear me if sunroof is open. Installing a protector helped to avoid that idea but it made more noise in cabin when sunroof is closed. Waste of money in my opinion.
