Im a bit baffled, since I've heard you have to first do a transmission pan drop first to keep the crud from going into the mechanicals during a transmission flush. But also heard you need to do a pan drop afterwards to remove the new crud that comes from the flush.

Which comes first, the pan drop or the flush?

best both.

I used to belive in teh afterward too ( clean filter after flush) but have found out that it s more important to prevent the crud from cirulating thru the transmission with teh flush so I vote pan drop/filter exchange first.

Fred..:)

I think the absolute BEST way to do it is to drop the pan and clean the crap, drive a few hundred miles, then drop the pan, clean, and replace the filter.......

I think you would be OK if you drained the pan before, then flushed, then dropped the pan and cleaned the filter.......

This will require purchasing twice the number of the required one-time self sealing pan bolts and gaskets.

Thats is the recommended method Fred has posted......

Although, as long as it gets done, I think that is sufficient........

Another option that I really like is what we did during my last T3 visit... Chemical Flush, Conventional Fluid exchange. Then drop pan and replace filter. Then flush again with Mobil 1. Adds some labor $$ but not much since you never disconnect the machine. The conventional fluid is pretty cheap anyway so for the most part you should be able to get someone to do it for the conventional price plus maybe $30 for the additional machine time for the second flush...

Q451990, how much was this at T3? I think I might do the same on my 91.

Thanks in advance.

Would it be better to get this work done at an infiniti dealer, or will any reputable transmission shop be able to do this? I'm just wondering if there are nissan specific issues to this procedure. Thanks.

Well.. it was lumped in with some other services and I brought my own fluid and some other things, so you'd probably have to run it past Doug and see what they say.
