Nothing in that article indicates when it happened. If it was her parents dragging her across the border when she was only six years old, that wasn't her choice or call.

I don't see anything there that indicates hypocrisy on her part.

Wow.....Unbelievable.....This is GREAT JOURNALISM....How dare her parents take her to Canada when she was 6 years old for a doctor visit. THE GALL! Based on where they lived at the time, instead of driving the 20 miles to the Canadian doctor they should have taken her 150 miles to Juno.

Why, this is ABSOLUTE PROOF that Canadian health care is MUCH better than its US counterpart.

The article was published by the Huffington Post. I don't think they even profess to be journalists.

Here's the Associated Press article on it.

http://www.google.com/hostedne...S9900

About the only thing she could be criticized for is suggesting that Canada change IT'S healthcare program. She may not like it, she may have legitimate concerns about the same type of program's impact if implemented here in the U.S., but she's overstepped her bounds telling the Canadians what to do in their own country.

But, then again, she must be an expert on Canada because you can see it from Alaska.

Or she's sharp enough to bring up the increasing deficiencies with the Canadian system as a means to get people to open their eyes to the one being proposed via Congress. I see you, like the Democrats and MSM, enjoy poking fun at remarks not made by her but by Tina Fey on SNL.

She certainly opened herself up to it with her inept answers.

From the interview with Charlie Gibson:

"GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing in Georgia?

PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia."

and then Katie Couric:

COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land-- boundary that we have with-- Canada. It-- it's funny that a comment like that was-- kind of made to-- cari-- I don't know, you know? Reporters--

COURIC: Mock?

PALIN: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.

COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.

PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our-- our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia--

COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state. "

Getting back to your point about bringing up the deficiencies of the Canadian system, I'd be fine with it if she had stopped at that and bemoaned starting such a system here.

What she did wrong was say the Canadian system should be dismantled. That is for the Canadians to decide in their own sovereign nation. Every bit as wrong as foreign nationals trying to tell us what to do without being asked by us for their input.

So you're fine with some foreigner telling us what we should do in our country? Sorry, but I would less than subtly tell them to shut up and MYOB.

We have too many problems and too much to deal with here to be telling anyone else what they should be doing in their country unless we're paying the bills there with money and/or American troops' lives.

Like I said, that's about the ONLY thing you could criticize Palin for in the whole episode relating to her talking about her family's use of the Canadian healthcare system and I do agree that even that is not a big deal.

Your "whoopty doo" about what she said indicated you were fine with it considering she said the Canadians should dismantle their healthcare system. Did you miss that she said or do you have a double set of standards?

Yes, a lot of people will go out of their way to take potshots at her. Unfortunately for her, she's provided them with a lot of ammo.

She doesn't have the power to do anything in Canada, that is just her opinion.

No double standard, sorry if I made it sound like that.

Neither would a foreigner have the power to do anything here, but you just finished saying you weren't fine with a foreigner telling us what we should do. You're ok with her doing it but not others doing it to us. Double standard.

I never actually said that I was okay with anyone telling other countries what to do. I feel like you are putting words in my mouth.

I'm no logician, but I can almost guarantee you that you are commiting a fallacy. I can't put my finger on it now, but I just have a gut feeling about it.

I think you are a shady character, srellim, I got my eye on you. I'm going to figure out exactly what you did here, and when I do, I will be ready next time, you snake.

She is neither right nor wrong. She stated an opinion which was hers. Lots and lots and lots of people from other countries try and tell the US what to do, usually with their hands out for our money. Hell, we have aliens like Pelosi telling us what to do.

Which, I'm sure you agree, those foreign nationals should shut up and concentrate on what they should do in their OWN countries.

We all have opinions about things that are being done elsewhere, and yes, some things are contrary to our beliefs. I agree with Palin in that a Canadian-style system is wrong for America, non-capitalist and should not be set up here. I am not, however, so presumptuous as to tell them what they should do in Canada. I'm not paying that bill, the American taxpayer is not paying that bill and neither is Palin. The Canadian taxpayers are.

The use of the word should and applying to another country when it is none of her business is the problem term.

Again, I think in this case it's a very minor faux pas and we've all beaten it a lot more than it deserves.

She's not in politics so who really cares other than those who simply want to point and complain? We have politicians all the time telling other countries what they need to do and fix and nobody seems to care about it. Why is her comments about Canada inflammatory, or a faux pas, while others are not?

Happens all the time in politics. Politicians are always pointing out things that are wrong in other countries and saying what needs to be changed. Aren't we constantly pointing out other countries for "civil rights violations", nuclear ambitions, etc etc etc?
