Was going to comment on your second point but again, more or less in agreement on stipulations of your edit and some of sort of safe access out of Palestine.stebo0728 wrote:Palestine should only be legitimized through talks with Israel. Its not the UN's place to force the issue. Israel is positioned to do so, but only at the cost of guaranteed cease fire from Hamas rockets.
EDIT - Oh and some sort of reassurance that the new border wont be contested 6 months later.
I don't buy this either. I don't see Clinton as any large degree Pro Israel, and the President has made it clear through his actions that he's not largely pro Israel at all. No, I think Clinton realizes the dangers of breathing legitimacy into group that has yet to denounce its radical violent ways and come sit at the adult table for once. Its rewarding bad behavior, and besides, the Gaza strip is Israels to concede, for a return on investment that looks alot more peaceful than the past decade. When that finally looks like a safe investment, you'll see Israel move closer to the line of scrimmage.bigbadberry3 wrote: Clinton has to say that as the US, unfortunately, is an ally to Israel and doesn't want to be dragged back in.
There would be no Israel if not for foreign force incluing the UN.stebo0728 wrote:Palestine should only be legitimized through talks with Israel. Its not the UN's place to force the issue. Israel is positioned to do so, but only at the cost of guaranteed cease fire from Hamas rockets.

Throughout 1947, the United Nations Special Commission on Palestine examined the Palestinian question and recommended the partition of Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. On November 29, 1947 the United Nations adopted Resolution 181 (also known as the Partition Resolution) that would divide Great Britain's former Palestinian mandate into Jewish and Arab states in May 1948 when the British mandate was scheduled to end. Under the resolution, the area of religious significance surrounding Jerusalem would remain a corpus separatum under international control administered by the United Nations.
