So Ive got my front and rear bumpers off and completely fixed and smooth sanded.

WHat Im unclear on is what to do with my gun betwee primer, base and clear. Since I only have one gun, and one paint container for it.... how do you switch between coats??

Since Im doing this DIY, Im using duplicolors premixed and ready to shoot jet black paint and metallic clearcoat.

Would it be worthwhile to spend the $25 on the quart of primer aswell of theres?? Or would spray can primer sanded with 600 grit work perfect...??

Any tips Id greatly appreciate, never painted anything before

Spend the money on the good primer. You can spray it with your hvlp gun but you may need a larger tip. Also, 600 grit is not nearly fine enough, think 1800 plus for finish sanding.

Definitely clean your gun thoroughly between color and clear application.

Well I get that I have to clean the gun with some spirits, but how do you clean the paint "tank" where you put the base coat and clear coat if I only have one.... you know what I mean??

Do you just dump the paint out of th gun if you have some left over, wash it out perhaps quickly??? Then fill it with clear and proceed??

What Id like to do it spray paint the primer, and block sand a few times, then base coat ad clear coat.

Would that stick, lay and look good or does using there primer affect something??

Check the back of the bumper for a stamp. I'm wondering what the material is. My guess would be TPO (and that should be stamped on there somewhere). If it is, in fact, TPO, special adhesion promoters need to be used to get paint to stick to the plastic. If you don't use them properly, one good rock and it'll start to peel of in nice large strips. Then you'd get to do this all over again.

Don't skimp on the primer, and make sure you find one that is designed for that specific substrate.

Wash the can out with Acetone, spray acetone through the gun, scrub with acetone. Do not drink Acetone.

cup liners, get them. and directions are on the back of the cans btw. Primer is usually sanded with 320-800. ask the people at the paint store for help.

Well its an OEM nissan bumper what would it be made out of??

I think that may have been a problem with the paintjob that on there now, it lifts, even when I was trying to sand the chips flush, whereever the pant edge was, the paint was lifting

I think I need to strip it down to bare plastic, hopefully I can find something at the store.

Im using the duplicolor paintshop paints, would they be compatible???

Ouch, not good...from what it sounds like, you're going to have to sand that down to the plastic. Then afterwards, you will need to spray a plastic adhesion promoter on there before you spray the primer. Then sand the primer, paint, etc.

Also, for me at least, I use lacquer thinner to clean out a paint gun.
